Success for Laugher and Mears at the FINA NVC Diving World Series

Chris Mears and Jack Laugher from City of Leeds Diving rose to the occasion at the third leg of the FINA NVC Diving World Series in London over the weekend. The pair took advantage of the home crowd support, showing impressive form to take silver in the men’s 3m Synchro final to win their debut medal of the 2015 series with 433.80 – a FINA NVC Diving World Series best performance. They built their dives through each round to conclude with their most difficult dive – the forward 4 ½ Somersault Pike.

Jack said “Our World series started off with two fourth places which was really tough, we knew things had to change and we’ve managed to rectify those mistakes today. We’ve improved our routine we are more focused coming into this event in front of the home crowd.”

North East Success at 2015 ASA Age Group Waterpolo Championships

Teams from the North East claimed victory at the ASA Age Group Waterpolo Championships in Manchester at the weekend. 

In the U17 boys final, Sedgefield beat 2013 champions Manchester. The game was hanging in the balance from the first whistle to the last but Sedgefield – who won the U15 Championships last season – hung on to claim an 8-7 win to lift the title for the third time in their history and the first time since 2006. Durham Performance Hub Success

On Saturday 25th April, the Durham Performance Swimming hub ran a fantastic session hosted by John Moore and Sedgefield Swimming Club at Newton Aycliffe Pool. In total, 36 swimmers attended the session with representation from Peterlee, Durham, Sedgefield and Derwentside swimming clubs. North East Divers Success at 2015 British Elite Junior Diving Championships

Divers from clubs in the North East shone at the British Elite Junior Diving Championships in Plymouth at the start of the month returning to the region with a collection of medals.

Katherine Torrance from the City of Leeds landed double gold, her first individual British Junior titles of her career with a pair of impressive performances on the final two days of competition. She scored 403.40 to scoop the 1m title in the oldest Group A age group then doubled up to add the 3m crown on 455.85.

City Of Sunderland Swimming Club Double Up At Awards Night

City of Sunderland Amateur Swimming Club (COSASC) had cause for double celebration at the 2015 North East Disability Sports Awards, held at the Sunderland Stadium of Light on Wednesday 18th February.

18 year old Matt Wylie, S9 British record holder and double European junior champion, won the Male Personality of the Year Award. Meanwhile, Danny Thompson picked up the Coach of the Year award in recognition of his achievements and dedication as head coach of the City of Sunderland programme.

Support for Clubs – Sport England Launches Club Matters

Last week, Sport England launched a new initiative, Club Matters, which offers free and practical advice on running a sports club. The initiative is aimed at supporting those who dedicate their time trying to make sport a fun and engaging experience for people of all ages and abilities.

Sport England’s Club Matters website offers tools, tips and guides which can assist with the everyday running of a club. The kinds of support available include free workshops that will be delivered across the country, a mentoring scheme plus online resources such as club improvement plans, Clubmark accreditation, a club survey tool and much more.
