Darlington Town Centenary Swimming Gala

This is an annual event where 7 Darlington Schools compete against each other and is well supported.  There were some outstanding team and individual races from the following schools – Hummersknott Academy, Hurworth, Education Village, Wyvern Academy, Carmel College, Longfield, Polam Hall.

5 new records included:-

Event 6 – Girls Open 1 length Butterfly = 13.89 seconds won by Hummersknott

Event 17 – 9/10 Boys 1 length Backstroke = 14.51 seconds won by Longfield

Event 37 – Boys Open Diving  competition = 80.5 points

Event 29 – 9/10 Boys 3×1 Medley Team = 45.19 seconds

Event 37 – New Centenary race – years 7, 8 & 9/10 6×1 mixed Freestyle Relay

There were 3 sponsors for the new Centenary event 37 who provided money towards the new trophy and engravings:- Hitachi Rail, M.T.E., Virgin Rail

Thank you to Sue Prasad, President of the Swim England North East Region, who kindly presented the Trophies on the evening of the Gala. Darlington Swimming Club along with parents who officiated and ran the Gala. Darlington Diving Club plus parents who officiated the Boys & Girls Diving Events. Students who took part in the Gala plus parents. Dolphin Centre Staff.

The Corporation Cup winners were:-

Boys open 100m Freestyle – 1st place William Buekenholdt – 55.4 seconds – Yarm School.

Girls open 100m Freestyle – 1st place Harriet Rogers – 1.00.97 seconds – Hummersknott Academy.

Boys Diving – Hurworth School – 80.5 points

Girls Diving – Carmel College – 68 points

Overall Boys winners – 1st place = 147 points – Hummersknott Academy

Overall Girls winners – 1st place = 159 points – Carmel College

Overall total winners – 1st place = 303.0 points – Hummersknott Academy
