Workforce Development in the North East

Coaches, officials and volunteers are vital to what we are able to deliver in the North East. Without them, the sport as we know it simply wouldn’t function. This section of the website aims to provide you with more information about the ways in which we develop our workforce within the North East Region.

Coach Development

Coach Development doesn’t just come through attending coaching courses or seminars – these are just the “tip of the iceberg”, also known as explicit knowledge.

Implicit and tacit knowledge are the real key to unlocking your coaching potential. Observation of other coaches and coaching practices, within and outside of aquatics can expand coaching knowledge, as can reflective practice and mentoring.

We have a mentoring programme in place in partnership with Swim England Coaching, which utilises the skills, knowledge and experience of some of our senior coaches, and we also provide guidance and support to coaches via an “open door” policy to any coaches who would like to observe organised County or Regional sessions.

In partnership with the Swim England Talent Team, there are a number of development opportunities available for coaches working within clubs across the Swim England North East Region. These include:

  • County Camps.
  • Regional Camps
  • National Camps.

The following document has been produced to outline the coach development pathway for the Swim England talent camps: SENER Coach Development Pathway. Any coaches wishing to be involved should contact the Swim England North East Regional office: swimnortheast@swimming.org.

Volunteers

Volunteers form the backbone and heart of the Swim England family – we couldn’t do it without them! They support our clubs, events and programmes across the country and they help ensure our aquatic sports grow and thrive. Our volunteers are our biggest asset and their contribution is invaluable.
