Synchronised Swimming Update from Maria Ramos:
Happy New Year to you. I hope you all enjoyed the festivities and feeling all refreshed for a great year in Synchro.
Thank you to everyone who has been in touch over the past few weeks – your feedback has been welcome. We know there is a lot to deal with but we have all really appreciated the constructiveness of the feedback and positive comments. As we have received so many questions – we thought it would help to create a FAQ – and share the information we have given to various regions – so everyone has the same information. This can be found here: ASA Synchronised Swimming 2017 and beyond – FAQ’s January 2017
I am pleased to announce that all the new Figures and Routine Grade Information can be found here. The ASA have also published the following:
1) A summary of all the figure and routine grades.
2) Detailed ‘booklets’ for each Figure and Routine Grade which gives details about the moves, the mandatory requirements and descriptions.
3) General Conditions and Guidance for regions and clubs.
4) Height charts .
The new updated template for completing once the Grade Days have been completed can be found here: Grade Results Template Jan 17.
My thanks go to everyone involved in reviewing this information, updating the paperwork and providing support, but especially to Sarah Clarke who has been driving this through so successfully. Many club representatives (big and small) have been part of the consultation and we are confident this is going to deliver a rewarding and motivating system as well as help set the standards we would like to see in GB and England Synchro.
As some of you may or may not know, the ASA is undergoing a rebrand – and as such the designs of the certificates is in the queue of work, but it’s behind many other major design projects. As soon as I have a date and a process for the new certificates, I will let you know. In the meantime, please do keep records of any swimmers who pass their grades and would like a certificate when they are produced.
As you know the venue has been changed for National Championships. It will now be held at the Harvey Hadden Pool in Nottingham on 22nd and 23rd April 2017. The conditions and draft timetable will be published on the ASA website this week.
The inaugural Combo Cup has been PENCILLED in for the 2nd July 2017. We are looking at suitable venues and working with the events team and as soon as information is available I will let you know. This will replace the recreational strand of the Combo competition at National Age Groups – and we hope every club in the country will want to come along to this event. Conditions to follow as soon as possible. Please note this is a provisional date!
National Age Groups
The date has been confirmed as the 25th and 26th November 2017.
Conditions to follow
Date, venue and conditions will be advised as soon as possible
For club and regional competition guidelines – we are in the process of updating the licensing guidelines and will publish these as soon as possible. In the meantime, any competitions which have been booked in for over 12 months and scheduled to take place before 1 April 2017 – please do continue to press ahead under the old conditions. Any competitions planned for after this date should be in the new format.
As you know, Julie Thompson left the ASA just before Christmas, and her replacement has not yet been appointed. So please can you forward this to your contacts and clubs as I do not have access to all the club contact details.
You will also have seen the ASA website has been undergoing a major redesign – and you will be pleased to see the Synchro section has now been updated. This was as a direct result of your feedback via the Club Survey so it’s good to see changes implemented and hopefully you will find it easier to find Synchro related info!
I hope you will find all this useful – but as always, please do not hesitate to contact me if you/your clubs have any further questions. With best wishes for a happy, healthy, successful 2017.
