Last night, athletes from the North East were recognised for their achievements within aquatics at the British Swimming Awards hosted at Lancashire County Cricket club in Manchester.

The British Swimming Awards recognise by discipline the Athlete, Coach and Emerging Athlete of the Year celebrating the fantastic achievements throughout the sports for their success in 2017.

Athletes from the North East were recognised in four categories. Newcastle Swim Team’s Emily Large won the Swimming Emerging Athlete of the Year, Sheffield Water Polo club’s Connor Carpenter won the Water Polo Male Emerging Athlete of the Year, City of Leeds Sophie Jackson won Emerging Female Water Polo Athlete of the Year while City of Leeds 10m Syncro Divers Ruby Bower and Phoebe Banks won Diving Emerging Athlete of the year.

These are fantastic achievements for all the athletes, many congratulations. Also, many congratulations to the coaches, clubs and support behind the athletes who have helped them so far on their athlete journey.
