North East Masters Team Success at National Masters Championships

The County Masters teams competed for the title of National Masters champions when the regional round of the competition took place at John Charles Centre for Sport, Leeds in November. At this event, the team from Yorkshire claimed 1st place with 177 points followed by Cheshire with 108 points. The team from Northumberland and Durham claimed third spot with 104 points.

Yorkshire then went on to win the national title at the championships on the weekend, beating close rivals Warwickshire by 53 points to be crowded National team champions. Subject to ratification David Emerson from the Yorkshire team also claimed a new British record in the 50 to 54 years 50 metres butterfly in a time of 27.00. Also representing their county at the event were officials, Aileen Ibbotson Lynne and Ritchie Dawson, Walter Taylor and Brian McClung.
