North East Swimmers Selected for British marathon team at European Junior Championships

Twelve swimmers have been named in the British marathon team that will head to Marseille for the European Junior Championships with two of these selected from clubs within the North East.

Grimsby Aquatics George Barber and Newcastle Swim Team’s Georgia Darwent are part of the team which will take part in the tree-day competition running from the 4th – 6th August 2017.

The competition is run across three age groups with 14/15 year olds swimming 5km, 16/17 year olds competing a 7.5km course and 18/19 year olds will tackle the 10km race. Athletes will also compete in two team relays.

Marathon Swimming Lead Bernie Dietzig said: “This is an exciting opportunity for the 12 swimmers to experience racing against the best in Europe. We have selected a promising team for this competition and I am pleased with the interest shown by all of the swimmers on the team. I see a lot of promise and am excited to see what they can achieve in this environment.”
