North East U16 Water Polo Boys Compete at the Inter-Regional Championships

July 12th 2016
On the weekend the U16 Boys Water Polo team travelled to Millfield School in Somerset to compete in the Inter-Regional Water Polo championships. The top 4 teams at the competition were very competitive and the title could have gone to anyone on the day.

The group stage consisted of 2 x 7 minute matches with the North East boys winning 7 out of the 8 matches:

North East 9 – 4 Midlands
North East 7 – 5 South East
North East 3 – 9 North West
North East 8 – 2 Wales
North East 7 – 2 East.

This meant they finished second in their group and subsequently found themselves up against the South West competing for a place in the final. This was a very close encounter which saw them lose at the last minute, 11-10.

After a short rest, the team then competed in the Bronze medal match against a very physical London side, which saw them come up short losing out 10 – 6 and coming 4th overall in the championships. On another day, the team would have been in the final match and this is their aim when this age group comes round again. Many congratulations to the team for their efforts and results at the competition, you should be proud of what you achieved.
