In the lead up to the European Water Polo qualifiers six boys from the North East Region have been training once a month together in Manchester, along with other athletes coming from all over the country and in one case Spain with the aim of making the Great Britain Team.
John Stephenson, the North East Water Polo Manager said ”The commitment of these players is superb with balancing school work and the amount of training they complete each week, they are a credit to themselves and the sport”.
”These boys have been training hard for a large part of their lives with the ultimate goal of representing their country and becoming the first boys to qualify for the European Water Polo Championships in over 10 years. All camps are self-funded; competitions and kit all come from the pocket of the player and their families due to limited resources.”
The athletes are hoping with support to make it to the European Water Polo Championships in September. If you area able to and would like to support the North East athletes, please click here.
