City of Leed’s butterfly swimmer Ciara Schlosshan delivered Britain’s first medal of the European Junior Championships in Israel yesterday with a strong performance in the women’s 200m event.
Ciara swam consistently though the prelims and semi-finals to qualify and then stepped it up in the final with her fastest swim of the meet when it mattered most. Gold went to Katrine Villesen of Denmark in 2:09.41, Ciara took the silver in 2:10.48 and Valentine Dumont of Belgium the bronze in 2:11.17. British team mate Isabel Jones finished eighth.
Britain’s swimmers competed in three other finals on day two in Netanya with Newcastle Swim Team’s Nicholas Pyle finishing seventh in the 100m Backstroke, Dean Thomas eighth in the 200m Breaststroke and a seventh place finish for the Mixed 4×100 Freestyle relay quartet of Scott McLay, James Eddy, Laura McNab, Anna Fleming.
