10th July 2017
The first of three swimming camps, which form part of the Regional Performance Programme, took place at Ponds Forge, Sheffield on Sunday 9th July.
The camps will engage with 36 athletes in the 12 year old age group where age is defined as at 31st December 2017.
The camps provide an opportunity for swimmers to develop their technical, tactical, physical and psychological skills with swimmers of a similar age and ability from across the region. The camps will also provide an opportunity for swimmers to work with different coaches and to train in different environments.
The first camp included a workshops for athletes and parents, a strength and conditioning session and two pool sessions.
The head coach for the camps, Dan Cocking from the City of Sheffield commented, “This is the first time many of these swimmers will be part of a regional talent camp. It’s the first opportunity to be part of the England Talent programme and for swimmers to aspire to continue to progress through the pathway. There’s a lot of information for the swimmers to take on. The challenge is for them to go away and use the information to develop themselves as a swimmer. The first camp was challenging, rewarding and very enjoyable for all who attended. I look forward to the second camp later in the year”.
The second camp is on Saturday 30th September 2017 at Consett Leisure Centre and the third camp is on Sunday 26th November 2017 at Catterick Leisure Centre.
