Each year the Northumberland and Durham Swimming Association board aim to present an award to their Athlete of the Year. This award is given to the Diver, Swimmer, Synchro Swimmer or Water Polo player whose performance is considered by the board to be the most outstanding of that year. 2016 saw some truly remarkable performances by our athletes but to be fair, there’s not much that tops an Olympic gold medal!
This year, the Northumberland and Durham Athlete of the Year 2016 award went to the City of Sunderland’s Paralympic champion Matthew Wylie.
Matt was presented with his award by the Northumberland and Durham President Mr Iain Young, at the county championships on the 25th February 2017. Congratulations Matt!
