Welcome to Disability Swimming in the North East!
Swimming has been an event at the Paralympic Games since the event was first held in Rome in 1960. The British Para-Swimming team has had great medal success at the Paralympic Games over that time and in other major international events with a number of swimmers coming from clubs in the North East.
Swimming is a very inclusive sport and there are plenty of opportunities at both a local and regional level as it is not just at Paralympic level that people with a disability can get involved in swimming. Clubs across the region offer opportunities for swimmers with a disability to train and start to compete. These clubs will provide the opportunity to signpost the swimmer to the most appropriate environment. Even though disabilities vary, the classification system ensures that the play field remains level.
