Coaches from clubs across the Swim England North East Region and beyond attended the Yorkshire Coaches conference on Sunday 10th September at Leeds Beckett University. Those in attendance had some very educational, informative and entertaining sessions during the course of the day.
Jon Rudd led several of the sessions. Jon is currently Swim Ireland’s National Performance Director and coached Ruta Meilutyte to Gold at the 2012 Olympic Games, a world record and Ben Proud, a 2016 Rio Olympic finalist. Jon has worked as Head Coach of both the Senior Great Britain and England swimming teams in recent years. He gave an insight into what he has learnt during the course of his coaching career by delivering two lectures plus a pool session covering breaststroke development.
Further sessions were delivered by Tim Stevenson, the lead strength and conditioning coach for the British Para-Swimming team. Tim gave an informative session covering functional strength in swimming and how to introduce land based training to a club programme.
Mike Peyrebrune, a technical advisor to British Swimming, covered annual planning for age group sessions while another informative session was delivered by the very experienced and knowledgeable coach Ian Armiger.
The coaches in attendance left informed and motivated to go back in their clubs and use what they have learnt from the day.
