21st February 2017
Following the success of the Young Volunteer Development Day last month, a second development day took place on Saturday 18th February in Wetherby.
The day attracted young volunteers from a range of North East Region clubs including Harrogate SC, Team Jorvik ASC, Kingston Upon Hull SC, Beverly Barracudas, Dewsbury ASC, Halifax SC and City of Bradford Esprit.
As part of the day the volunteers undertook a range of activities as part of the ASA’s Young Aquatic Leaders course. Different tasks ensured that the volunteers considered a variety of factors involved in planning and delivering an aquatic event including the type of event, marketing and promoting, inclusivity, recruiting volunteers, time planning, facility requirements, health and safety, rewarding success and evaluating performance.
The volunteers will now go back to their club and put what they have learn’t into practice with the support of their club mentor.
The opportunity provided the young adults with a set of skills to gain the experience of volunteering which will help their club, other club members, add value to their CV and put their new skills and volunteering experience towards DofE awards.
Participants commented in their feedback that the day was very informative and that they would attend further development days in the future.
