Young Leader Frankie from City of Sunderland ASC and Sunderland City Dive Team volunteered at the AP Masters Grand Prix & BUSL at Sunderland Aquatics Centre which took place over the 9th/10th March. Frankie explained her volunteering experience of the event:
Why did you volunteer at the event?
If I’m honest, this particular event offered the opportunity to raise money for my club, so that was my initial reason for volunteering but I also did think it might be fun. I now realise how important it is to give something back to swimming, as I have gained so much from it.
What role/s did you do at the event?
I was a timekeeper and a turn judge on day 1 and a time keeper again on day 2.
What did you learn from the volunteering experience?
How to be a timekeeper – this is something I had never done before.
What did you enjoy about the experience?
Getting to watch the events whilst volunteering. It was good to see both a masters event and the university league finals, particularly watching the records which were set at the masters event.
What perhaps didn’t you enjoy so much?
The event ran over, so it was a long day, especially as I had been to morning training.
Would you recommend other young leaders taking advantage of similar opportunities in the future?
Yes, it was a great experience and I would definitely consider doing it again.
Event Referee, David Broome, commented that Frankie and all the other volunteers were a pleasure to work with and that he was very impressed with their contribution to the events success.
