North East athletes have once again showcased their exceptional talent and dedication at several national competitions this summer. Building on the success at the Aquatics GB Summer Championships, where they secured a remarkable number of medals, athletes from North East clubs have delivered outstanding performances at the National Age Group Open Water Championships, the National Masters Open Water Championships, and the GoCardless Swim England National Summer Meet 2024.
National Age Group Open Water Championships
North East athletes demonstrated remarkable resilience and skill at the National Age Group Open Water Championships. They secured a total of six medals: three gold, two silver, and one bronze. Many of the medalists and top-ten finishers were part of the North East Regional Open Water camp and competition, which undoubtedly contributed to their impressive performances. The camp provided athletes with crucial training and support, helping them excel in this challenging discipline.

National Masters Open Water Championships
The North East Masters swimmers also made their mark at the National Masters Open Water Championships, bringing home a medal of each color: one gold, one silver, and one bronze. These medals were not only achieved in individual events but also in the relay events across various age categories. The success at this championship highlights the depth of talent and experience within the region’s Masters swimming community.

Swim England National Summer Meet 2024
The GoCardless Swim England National Summer Meet 2024 was a resounding success for North East athletes, who continued their momentum from the Aquatics GB Summer Championships. They captured a total of 74 medals, comprising 32 golds, 20 silvers, and 22 bronzes. This impressive tally adds to the following results from the Aquatics GB Summer Championships: 31 gold, 27 silver, and 27 bronze medals.
A highlight performance saw York City’s Alexander Tew made it a hat-trick of golds at the GoCardless Swim England National Summer Meet after adding 800m freestyle gold.
The North East swimmers delivered numerous season and personal best times, showcasing their hard work and dedication. Many athletes experienced the thrill of competing at a national level for the first time, earning medals and gaining invaluable experience.
