Sad passing of Para Swimmer – Joe Field, RDASC

Please see below a Richmond Dales ASC social media tribute to one of our Regional Para Squad members, Joe Field, who sadly passed away this week:

Dear all

Over the past couple of days our club has been coming to terms with some devastating news. We now feel that the time is right to share this beyond the club, knowing the presence of the young man that this concerns was so huge across the sport of swimming.

Joe Field, amazing son, brilliant brother, fierce friend and awesome S5 swimmer has passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. We are still reeling from this news.

Joe was a huge part of our club, a pillar in our Para Squad, and a much-loved friend to us all.  Joe joined RDASC in 2020 and has had to overcome many health obstacles, including the removal of a growth from his brain which resulted in a lengthy stay in hospital. However, Joe being Joe, this did not deter him from making a return to the pool during day release from his hospital bed.

He was a shining example to everyone at the club and beyond with his determination to overcome any challenges that were placed in his path. Working with coaches Zoe and Keith he gradually returned to fitness with a smile on his face during the most difficult times. He was a huge presence in our sport, and we know that many of his friends and fellow swimmers from other clubs will feel this loss as deeply as we do.

We have lost a swimmer, a friend and in terms of our little community a ‘family’ member. Clearly, this pales in comparison to the devastating loss suffered by his family at home. Our thoughts go out to all of those touched by his untimely passing, in particular his wonderful parents and lovely sister.

We will move forward and honour his memory. Swim far, swim well, swim fast young Joe. You will forever be part of the Richmond Dales family. We are so glad that we knew you, and fell privileged that you made a home for yourself with us.

Richmond Dales, ASC

Swim England North East Region sends sincere condolences to Joe’s family, friends and teammates at this very sad time. If anyone is in need of support, please follow these links:
