The European Junior Swimming Championships 2022 were held over 6 days of racing from 5th-10th July and took place in Otopeni, Romania.

A total of 42 swimmers were selected to be a part of the British Swimming team, with 9 of these athletes from the North East. For the majority of these swimmers, this was their first international debut representing Great Britain. The swimmers were:

Richard Denigan (City of Leeds) was the Head Coach at these European Championships, and this is what Richard had to say about the whole week:

The team and staff that were chosen were outstanding. The coaching team was cohesive from the start, which allowed us to bring open and honest conversations into our staff meetings.

The staff-athlete relationship was exceptional, and the atmosphere throughout the week was fantastic.

Mike Taylor (City of Sheffield) was the other North East coach in Romania, and he worked alongside Richard on the coaching team.
