Four North East Swimmers were selected to compete at the ISF World School Games in Normandy, France.
These swimmers were Charlotte Berry (City of Sheffield), Abigail Miles (City of Sheffield), Libby Freeman (Morpeth) & Rohan Smith (Skipton). They were selected following strong performances at the ESSA inter-divisional Championships in March. They were joined by 16 other swimmers from across England.
The ISF World School Games is a Multi-Sport event that brings young students from all over the globe to compete in over 70 different sports. These games allow young student-athletes to experience what it is like to be in a similar environment to the Olympic Games, with a variety of sports involved. All 4 swimmers had the opportunity to compete outdoors, which none of them have done before and despite some challenges all had strong competition.
Here are the results of how the North East swimmers did:
Abigail Miles – Bronze: 400IM, 5th: 200BR & 6th: 200IM
Charlotte Berry – Silver: 200FR, Bronze: 4×100 Mixed Medley Relay, 4th: 4×100 Female Medley Relay
Rohan Smith – Bronze: 50BR, 6th: 100BR
Libby Freeman – Bronze: 50BK, 4th: 4×100 Female Medley Relay
After the competition, Charlotte Berry was awarded Swimmer of the Meet by the coaching staff & Rohan Smith was the top boy.
