Swim England North East Region is delighted to confirm that, following the outstanding success of last year’s campaign to the AP Race London International, we are once again taking a team of North East athletes to this prestigious event. The team are travelling to London on Friday 22nd May for a bonanza bank holiday event in the capital!
Building on the strong performances and development opportunities from 2025, we have assembled an even larger squad for 2026. With broader selection criteria and expanded participation opportunities, this initiative reflects our continued commitment to supporting senior competitive swimming across the North East Region.
Coaches Danny Martland (Tadcaster), Jack Moulton (City of Sheffield) and Martin Hall (NST) will lead the team in London with support from Jeremy Stacey (City of Leeds) and Mel Robinson (Tadcaster) as Team Managers.
Why We’re Returning: Success in 2025
Last year, a team of 24 North East swimmers aged 17 and above travelled to compete at the London Aquatics Centre in Stratford for the 2025 AP Race London International – an event that brought together elite swimmers from around the world. The experience proved to be a major milestone for our region’s senior programme, with numerous highlights for athletes and coaches alike.
In 2025, our athletes competed with determination and professionalism, achieving multiple finalists, podium places, and strong race results across Super Finals, ‘B’ finals, and junior categories. They competed alongside international squads and demonstrated that North East swimmers can deliver high-performance racing on a world stage.

Development Beyond the Pool
More than just competitive results, last year’s AP Race trip delivered invaluable learning opportunities. Athletes experienced warm-up routines, technical race preparation, and post-racing review sessions designed to foster personal growth. They also benefitted from the camaraderie of team-based support, with swimmers from across multiple North East clubs building unity and resilience throughout the competition.
