What a Fun Weekend! The Swim England North East girls’ water polo team showcased phenomenal skills and team spirit at this weekend’s Water Polo Inter-Regionals, delivering the best performance seen in years. Reflecting on their progress, it’s clear that this squad has evolved remarkably over the past two years. The dedication and effort they displayed were unmatched, promising future victories as they continue to hone their skills over the next 6, 12, and 18 months.
From the start to the finish, both inside and outside the pool, the girls were a delight. Their team spirit was second to none, creating a positive and supportive environment. Special recognition goes to the captain and two vice-captains for their exemplary leadership. A standout performance came from the team’s exceptional goalie, Rebekah, who was deservedly named Player’s Player and Tournament MVP. Her contributions were critical to the team’s success.
Coaches from all teams praised the girls for their sportsmanship, highlighting their positive attitude and respect for the game. A massive thank you goes out to Head Coach Gabby Williams, Assistant Coach Imogen, Team Manager Jase, and the parents for their unwavering support. The cheer crew, with their 10/10 enthusiasm, made a significant difference, boosting the team’s morale throughout the competition.
The girls played two brilliant games against Scotland, narrowly losing in the last quarter, and secured a win and a draw against the West Midlands. Their performance this weekend has made everyone incredibly proud, and we look forward to seeing them build on this success. Onwards and upwards!
In other exciting news, the North East U16 boys’ team came third in Division 2 at the U16’s Inter-Regions Tournament held in Bolton. The boys played some tough games, demonstrating remarkable determination and resilience. A special congratulations to Thomas Forrest, 14, who was awarded the team’s Most Valuable Player (MVP), and also to Otis McKelvey who won the tournament top goal scorer. Their outstanding efforts were a key part of the team’s achievements.
Overall, this weekend has been a tremendous success for Swim England North East, showcasing the talent, hard work, and team spirit of our young athletes. We couldn’t be prouder of their accomplishments and look forward to their future successes.
