Thirty Young Leaders from clubs across the Swim England North East Region have provided over sixty volunteer roles at the British Swimming Summer Championships which were held at Ponds Forge Sheffield from the 22nd to the 28th July 2023.

The opportunity provided them with experience of doing various roles at a large scale aquatics event. The Young Leaders got to see at close hand how an event works behind the scenes with other more experienced volunteers and witness some fantastic swimming in a great atmosphere.

The roles which they took on included kit carrying, medal bearers and event support. All young leaders were supported in their roles by experience volunteers who trained them in their various duties.

One young volunteer commented “It was great to be part of the Championships and be part of the field of play team to make sure that the event went smoothly. I enjoyed the roles which I did with the help and support of lead volunteers and to meet other young volunteers from different clubs. I would definitely volunteer again if I was given the opportunity.”
