Celebrating Aquatic Excellence: Swim England National Awards 2024

The winners of the Swim England National Awards 2024 were revealed on Saturday 30th November, in a prestigious ceremony held at Birmingham University’s Great Hall. This annual event celebrated the exceptional contributions of individuals and organisations across all aquatic disciplines, with 27 awards presented to deserving recipients.

The North East Region was proud to see several of its outstanding members and clubs recognised at the national level, showcasing the strength and dedication of the region’s aquatic community.

North East Highlights at the National Awards

Congratulations to Danny Martland, who received multiple accolades, including the Swim England Swimming Development Coach Award. Danny and the dedicated team at Tadcaster York Sport Swim Squad was further highlighted when the club received the Swim England Inclusion Impact Award.

Gabrielle Williams from City of Sheffield WPC was recognised with the Swim England Water Polo Performance Pathway Coach Award, reflecting her significant impact on water polo development.

North East Regional Nominees Celebrated

The North East was well-represented, with numerous clubs and individuals nominated for prestigious awards:

  • Club of the Year – Swimming: City of Leeds SC
  • Club of the Year – Artistic Swimming: South Yorkshire Swans SC
  • Club of the Year – Water Polo: Rotherham Metro WPC
  • Club of the Year – Diving: Harrogate Diving Club

Coaching awards highlighted the exceptional development in the region:

  • Swim England Artistic Swimming Coach Award: Tilly Budd, City of Leeds Synchro SC
  • Swim England Diving Coach Award: Millie Fairhurst-Marshall, City of Sheffield Diving Club
  • Swim England Water Polo Coach Award: Matthew Birch, Rotherham Metro WPC

Coaching awards highlighted the exceptional performance pathway in the region:

  • Swim England Artistic Swimming Coach Award: Tilly Budd, City of Leeds Synchro SC
  • Swim England Diving Coach Award: Bron Jenkinson, City of Sheffield Diving Club
  • Swim England Swimming Coach Award: Danny Martland, Tadcaster York Sport Swim Squad

The region also excelled in volunteerism and technical excellence:

  • Swim England Technical Officer of the Year: Nicola Hughes, Durham City SC
  • Swim England Volunteer of the Year: John Simpson, Kippax SC

Special recognition was also given to Robyn Howard of City of Leeds SC, who was nominated in the Swim England Youth Champion of the Year by the Youth Advisory Panel.

Reflecting on Success

The event highlighted the incredible dedication, skill, and passion within the aquatic community. Susan Prasad was nominated with the prestigious Harold Fern & Alfred H Turner Awards, reflecting her longstanding contributions to the sport.
