The North East Steelers showcased an exceptional display of teamwork, determination, and skill at the U14 Open Inter-Regional Championships over the weekend, earning a well-deserved Silver medal in the final against the North West. The team’s performance was marked by their unwavering spirit and continuous improvement, game after game.

Led by Captain Freddie Blore, the Steelers demonstrated incredible discipline and camaraderie throughout the tournament. Each player’s contributions were pivotal, but Ernesto Garcia shone brightest as the team’s MVP, while Dylan Moss was named the tournament’s standout goalkeeper, a testament to their remarkable talent and dedication.

Despite their passion and fierce competitiveness, the team embodied humility in their victories and grace in their two narrow single-goal losses. Their success reflects not only their own hard work and focus but also the exceptional guidance of their coaching and managerial team, alongside the vital support from regional clubs and Swim England Talent Centres.

Special recognition goes to Head Coach Grant Peters, who also serves as one of the North East Region’s Independent Directors, Assistant Coach Graham Trueman, Team Manager Carl Smith and our regional tournament Referee Luke Smith. They are part of a growing number of people including our inspirational Regional Head Coach Matt Graves, Assistant Coach Dom Epton and Regional Team Manager Vicky Alderson, who also played a crucial role in the Steelers’ success.
