Following the success of their first Masters Swimming Development Day earlier this year, Northumberland and Durham are delighted to announce a second event at Sunderland Aquatics Centre on Saturday 3rd October 2026.
The day is designed to support Masters swimmers of all abilities, combining pool-based coaching, strength and conditioning, and specialist educational workshops to help participants enhance their performance both in and out of the water.
The programme begins with two hours of long-course pool training, offering swimmers the opportunity to develop technique, fitness and race skills in a 50m environment. This will be followed by a Strength and Conditioning session led by Nathan Alford, focusing on exercises and training principles that can help improve swimming performance, strength and resilience.
The day concludes with an exciting and informative workshop:
Breathwork for Masters Swimming Performance
What if you could use your breath as another tool to improve your swimming performance?
In this interactive one-hour workshop, Steffy Cappleman, a SOMA Breath Transformational Coach, Oxygen Advantage Functional Breathing Instructor and competitive Masters swimmer, will explore the science behind breathing and its powerful connection to both physical and mental performance.
Participants will learn how improving breathing efficiency, control and COâ‚‚ tolerance can influence their ability to:
- Manage effort during training and racing
- Recover more effectively between efforts
- Maintain focus under pressure
- Perform at their best in the water
This practical, science-based session will introduce simple breathing techniques that swimmers can immediately apply to their training and competition routines.
