Northumberland and Durham Swimming Development Camp

Saturday the 2nd December 2023 saw the first face to face swimming camp for Northumberland and Durham.

The swimmers arrived early to sign in and received their hat and t-shirt for the event. The first session was in the pool so they headed off to get ready. A quick brief from the head Coach Katy Batley and the swimmers broke off into their groups with the fantastic skills coaches.

The main focus of the first pool session was on skills, streamlining, efficiency and understanding the feel of the water. The 2 hour session flew over and the swimmers thrived on the session, it was then time for a quick lunch break.

The afternoon kicked off with the swimmers filling in their logbooks with their goals before getting stuck into a fantastic Strength and Conditioning session. Here the swimmers stayed in their morning coaching groups to work through a range of stretching techniques and to learn some new warm up techniques. This was fantastic, to see how flexible and agile the swimmers were was great! After the Strength and Conditioning session it was back into the pool to focus on some Individual medley work. Turns, underwater skills and swims. The coaches were giving the swimmers feedback throughout the day on various points to tweak and try to improve on, all referencing to the goals in their log books.

The day flew over, the coaches, swimmers and Team Managers all agreed it was a great success and all had a great day. A quick debrief and it was home time.

A comment we received from one of the parents summarises the day nicely ‘Jack absolutely loved it and can’t wait to come back .He couldn’t wait to go to training the following morning to put what he had learnt into practice. Thank you again’

Bring on the next one! 😎
