In a remarkable display of skill and dedication, three young water polo athletes from the North East Region of England are set to represent Great Britain’s Under-19 team at the Senior Men’s EU Nations tournament in Brno, Czech Republic. The tournament, scheduled from December 8th to 10th, promises to be a pivotal moment in the careers of these rising stars.
All three players, aged 18, honed their skills at the North East Steelers before embarking on their journey with the GB water polo team. The trio, consisting of Ben Alderson from Sedgefield Water Polo Club, Callum Eccles from City of Sheffield Water Polo Club and Hucknall Water Polo Club, and Henry Jackson from Rotherham Metro Water Polo Club and Hucknall Water Polo Club, have demonstrated exceptional talent and determination in their rise through the ranks.
Henry Jackson, who proudly captains the team, leads by example both in and out of the water. Alongside him, Ben Alderson has been appointed one of the two vice captains, showcasing the leadership qualities that have undoubtedly contributed to their selection for this prestigious international tournament.
The journey for these three athletes started with their formative years at North East Steelers, where they developed a strong foundation under the guidance of dedicated coaches and mentors. Their inclusion in the GB U19 team not only reflects their individual prowess but also highlights the quality of training and support provided by their home clubs.
The three athletes will be joined by the Squad’s Team Manager, James Jackson from Rotherham WP Club. Jackson initially led the North East Steelers for the boys until they advanced to the England academy. Following their progression, he transitioned from the regional level to the national level, first with England and later with Team GB.
The Senior Men’s EU Nations tournament in Brno is anticipated to be a challenging yet rewarding experience for the GB U19 team.
