The second of two face to face camps took place at York Sports Village on Sunday 7th June. The camp was the culmination of the 2025/6 county’s Swimming Development programme which included a variety of different development opportunities:
- Two face to face camps including pool sessions, classroom sessions and dry land S&C.
- Five workshops covering Nutrition, Positive Mental Health, Developing an Athlete Lifestyle, Sports Psychology and Growth & Development.
- Workshop for Parents to help support them with the development of their child.
- A CDP opportunity for Coaches and Team Managers
The 36 selected swimmers were encouraged to participate in all activities with an open mind, a growth mindset and enthusiasm. All swimmers participated in the opportunities with great enthusiasm and asked some great questions to help with their learning and all others in attendance.
Olympic medalist James Wilby attended the second camp to bring many of the areas covered as part of the programme to life by sharing his journey as a swimmer. James talked about the important lessons that he has learnt which the young athletes can learn from to help them develop as an athlete and as a person. James also met with the team of coaches to talk about what it’s like to be coached, working as part of a team, learning from different areas and being positive role models.

The Camp’s Head Coach, Tim Redfearn, commented “The development programme has been a fantastic opportunity for swimmers, coaches and parents to learn and develop in a variety of different areas both in and out of the water. Having a successful Olympic athlete in attendance at the camp, to talk with, helped inspire everyone present and was a great way to make all the learning opportunities relatable to both high level success and everyday life. All the swimmers and team of staff were fully engaged to make the most of the opportunities which were available which helps to make the programme such a success.”
