The Northumberland and Durham Performance Programme got underway in early September for the 2019 – 2020 season with a cohort of 38 selected swimmers from 13 clubs within the county.
This season, the lead coaches are Ryan Livingstone (Newcastle Swim Team), Chris Leighton (BOSSS), Paul Woodley (Derwentside), Chris Reekie (Tynemouth) and Tom Hartforth (Middlesbrough). Fred Kirby stepped down from his role as Manager of the programme at the end of the 2018-2019 season, and moving forwards the programme will now be overseen by a management board with administrative support from Lara Lill. Fred has been an integral part of the performance programme, and without his vision on how the programme should look, and his hard work and persistence to get it to where it should be, it wouldn’t be where it is now. The county are grateful for all of Fred’s support and guidance and wish him well for the future.
This season, sessions take place at the Sunderland Aquatics centre on a Saturday morning, 8am-10am and a Wednesday afternoon 2pm – 4.30pm. These will continue until the Aquatic Centre closes in the Spring of 2020 for repairs.

The Performance Programme is complemented by the Hub programme operating in Tees Valley, Northumberland, County Durham and Tyne and Wear who also have a number of session planned on a Saturday morning at the Sunderland Aquatic centre from 10am – 12pm. As with all other seasons, there is an open door policy for coaches to attend any of the performance programme sessions as observers / assistants.
