Earlier this month, Jay Manners, a North East Youth panel member, Derwentside and Northumberland and Durham Performance Programme Swimmer managed to secure an interview with Swim England’s CEO, Jane Nickerson which he broadcasted on his YouTube channel. Jay has agreed for us to share his interview with Jane and provided us with some background information on how the interview came about:
‘I was fortunate to secure an interview with Jane Nickerson, Chief Executive of Swim England, after she spotted my YouTube channel on Twitter, after this was shared by the parent of one of my co-swimmers. This piqued Jane’s attention, and she contacted the parent to enquire about more information. She intimated to the parent that if I was in agreement, she would be more than happy to arrange an interview with me. I was absolutely thrilled at the prospect of interviewing Jane, and contacted her to advise her of this, and also to enquire whether she would be happy for me to record our interview and upload in onto YouTube, which she kindly granted her permission for me to do so.
The purpose of the interview was to provide the audience with a good understanding of Swim England’s aims and objectives in their future plans for returning back to the pool after lockdown, as well as show casing the continued hard work that Jane and her team are doing behind the scenes. I also sought to raise recognition for the great local pathway support that the North East has, and make Jane aware of how successful our region is’.
