Young Leaders Gain Volunteering Experience at 2022 British Swimming Championships

Young Leaders from across the Swim England North East Region put themselves forward to volunteer at the British Swimming Championships which were held at Ponds Forge, Sheffield between the 5th and 10th April 2022.

The opportunity came as a result of them attending the Young Leader Event Volunteering Module earlier in the year. The young adults were offered a range of field of play positions including results runner, music operator and kit carriers. The opportunities gave them experience of seeing how a large scale event works behind the scenes and enabled them to see at close hand how Olympians, including Olympic medal winners, go about their race preparations and perform.

Young Leaders commented:

” I learned what went on behind the scenes of a big competition and how much organisation it takes.”

” I know that I can push myself outside of my comfort zone and do things that I’m not comfortable with at first.”

” It was an experience I have never done before so I would love to do it again.”

” I met new people that I am now in contact with.”

” I would recommend it to others because it’s an amazing atmosphere.”

” I loved every minute. It was such a fun experience getting to meet Olympians and get the whole experience of being at the British Championships.”

” The shirt and lanyard are great mementos of my volunteering, thank you!”
