Belgrade, Serbia – The European Junior Swimming Championships held in Belgrade, Serbia from 4th to 9th July showcased the extraordinary talent of North East athletes, who left a lasting impression on the competition. Among the standout performers were Leah Schlosshan, Phoebe Cooper, Sienna Robinson, and Ashleigh Baillie, representing the City of Leeds and City of Sheffield swimming clubs.
Leah Schlosshan, representing the City of Leeds, made a resounding statement by capturing the gold medal in the highly competitive 200m Individual Medley event. Not only did Schlosshan claim the top spot, but she also shattered the championship record, solidifying her status as one of the brightest rising stars in the swimming world. This victory allowed her to successfully defend her title from the previous year’s championships, cementing her dominance in this discipline. Schlosshan also displayed exceptional form in other events, reaching the finals in the 200m Freestyle, Women’s 4x200m Freestyle Relay, and Women’s 4x100m Medley Relay, highlighting her versatility and prowess in the pool.
Phoebe Cooper, representing the City of Sheffield, demonstrated remarkable skill throughout the competition. Cooper clinched the silver medal in the fiercely contested 200m Individual Medley, showcasing her versatility and talent. She also played an instrumental role in securing the silver medal for the 4x100m Mixed Medley Relay. Additionally, Cooper contributed to her team’s success in the Women’s 4x100m Freestyle Relay, securing a bronze medal. Her consistent performances were further evident in the Women’s 4x200m Freestyle Relay, where she reached the finals, displaying her unwavering commitment to her team’s success.
Sienna Robinson, also representing the City of Sheffield, displayed commendable effort in the highly competitive breaststroke events. Although falling short of reaching the finals, Robinson helped her team reach the finals in the Women’s 4x100m Medley Relay from an impressive Breaststroke leg. Robinson proved herself as a formidable competitor by advancing to the semi-finals in both the 50m and 200m Breaststroke events. Her exceptional technique and dedication to her craft will undoubtedly position her as a strong contender in future competitions.
Ashleigh Baillie, hailing from the City of Sheffield, showcased her swimming prowess in the relay events. Baillie contributed to her team’s success, reaching the finals in the Women’s 4x200m Freestyle Relay, demonstrating her ability to perform under pressure. Additionally, she displayed promise by advancing to the semi-finals in the highly challenging 200m Butterfly event.
