The North East Swimming Masters made waves at the recent World Aquatics Masters Championships held in Doha, Qatar, showcasing their remarkable talent and determination on the international stage. Competing against top athletes from around the globe, the team delivered outstanding performances across various events, securing impressive results and earning well-deserved recognition.
Representing Gateshead and Whickham, Nula Muir-Cochrane displayed her prowess in the water, clinching second place in the Open Water event, as well as the 400m and 800m Freestyle races. Additionally, Muir-Cochrane claimed fourth in the 200m Backstroke, highlighting her versatility and endurance in multiple disciplines. Judy Pearson proved her mettle by setting a Championship Record in the 200m Fly, while also securing podium finishes in the 50m Fly and 100m Butterfly events. Verity Dobbie showcased her strength in breaststroke, clinching fourth place in the 100m, 50m, and 200m Breaststroke races, alongside notable performances in other events. Joan Edwards exhibited consistency with sixth-place finishes in the 800m, 400m, and 100m Freestyle events. Together, these formidable swimmers propelled their team to second place in the Freestyle Team and third in the Medley Team for the 240+ age group, underscoring their collective excellence.
From Tynemouth, Nick Valentine demonstrated his skill in long-distance swimming with a fourth-place finish in the 800m Freestyle, alongside commendable performances in other events. Meanwhile, Jeff Lo of East Leeds Swimming Club showcased his speed and agility, claiming top honours in the 50m Freestyle event and podium finishes in the 100m Freestyle and 50m Butterfly races. Manson Mak and Declan Dahill-Rowan also delivered stellar performances, securing podium positions in their respective age categories. Gareth Allen showcased his versatility and determination, posting top-ten finishes in multiple events, while the East Leeds Swimming Club relay teams showcased their synchronicity and teamwork, clinching podium spots in both the freestyle and medley relays.
Lynne Dawson of Chapel Town SC exhibited her skill and determination with commendable performances in freestyle and backstroke events, showcasing her enduring passion for swimming. Ben Felton and Ken Flett of City of Sheffield Swim Squad displayed their prowess in backstroke, freestyle, breaststroke, and individual medley events, contributing to the team’s overall success.
Additionally, Emma Victoria Barker of Harrogate District SC demonstrated her strength and skill in the 45-49 age group, securing eighth place in both the 100m Freestyle and 100m Breaststroke events, alongside a ninth-place finish in the 50m Breaststroke.
