The following funding opportunities are currently available for clubs located in in the Borough of Redcar and Cleveland, the Borough of Scarborough and the North York Moors National Park to consider through the Woodsmith Foundation:
Young and Talented Fund
The foundation recognises that talented young people can often face barriers to reaching their potential due to lacking the money they need to progress in their specialist subject.
In response, Woodsmith Foundation are pleased to re-open for applications for Young and Talented grants from February 2026 to the end of October 2026. The funding will focus on supporting individual children and young people across our area of benefit, who can demonstrate exceptional skill in their chosen area. We are delighted to be
able to invest in inspirational local young people, by helping to remove barriers to their future success.
Applications to support children and young people up to the age of 18 who have already demonstrated exceptional talent in their chosen subject are accepted. Children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities, would be eligible up to the age of 25.
Talents are considered in the widest possible way. Examples could include: an academic subject, chess, dance, art, writing, music, drama and sports of all kinds – from skateboarding and surfing to horse riding and athletics. The focus is on the fact that the young person is already operating at a high level and excelling in their subject.
The types of things they may be able to fund include:
- Competition fees and associated costs
- Transport costs
- Accommodation costs
- Specialist coaching and training costs
- Lessons and tuition
- Exam fees and qualification costs
- Essential equipment/clothing
- Extra-curricular academic support
Grants of up to £1,500 are available.

Small Grants for Every Day Essentials and Activities These grants are for £50 to £2,000 to allow small community organisations to purchase items to run their group or for all organisations to buy kit, equipment, qualifications or deliver time
limited activities over 6 months.
This is available for local, voluntary groups that are constituted including Community Amateur Sports Clubs (CASCs) or sports clubs, Charities or Charitable Incorporated Organisations (CIOs) registered with the Charity Commission and Community Interest Companies (CICs) limited by guarantee.

Community Grants These grants are for £2,001 to £10,000 to deliver projects that will make positive change in their communities over up to 12 months. The Woodsmith Foundation is keen to support a wide range of organisations to deliver projects that will make positive change in their communities within our area of benefit. We will award grants to projects that fit the Woodsmith Foundation’s priority of increasing opportunities and tackling disadvantage.
