Young Leaders from clubs across the Swim England North East Region have helped deliver a successful 2026 long course swimming championships.
The Young Leaders put themselves forward to do a range of different roles including technical officials, marshalling, results runner and supporting with medal presentations. All were provided with the relavent training, support and guidance to enable them to do their role. They helped demonstrate that there is more to our aquatic sport that getting wet in the water and that there are other ways of helping to develop themselves, give back to the sport, enhance their CV and become positive role models.
All the Young Leaders engaged positively and enthusiastically with the many different other volunteers who form part of a large scale event and were a real credit to themselves, their clubs and their sport.
Feedback form the Young Leaders on their experience was as follows.

- “Everyone was really kind, everyone spoke to you and got to know you, and always had a smile. I Always got checked to make sure we were okay and everything was well explained”
- “ It’s a good experience giving back to the sport you are dedicated to, it sees the atmosphere in a different environment.”
- “ I learnt that I am more confident, when speaking to people I haven’t met before than I thought.“
- All respondents indicated that they would consider volunteering again at similar events and would you recommend to others to give event volunteering a go.
