Stocksbridge Pentaqua Swimming Club is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Assistant Head Coach to join its dedicated coaching team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in developing swimmers within a supportive, community-focused club environment in the North East region.

The Role

As Assistant Head Coach, you will work closely with the Head Coach to deliver high-quality, engaging training sessions across the club’s programme. You will contribute significantly to athlete development, focusing on technique, fitness, and competitive performance within a structured and motivating environment.

This is a part-time role, requiring flexibility to attend 5 out of 7 weekly training sessions, including midweek evenings and Sundays.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging, age-appropriate coaching sessions across multiple squads (Ore, Iron, Steel, and Masters Forged Squad)
  • Support the planning and implementation of the club’s annual training programme
  • Monitor swimmer progress and provide constructive feedback
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable training environment
  • Attend competitions and support swimmers at galas
  • Communicate effectively with swimmers, parents, and club committee members

Candidate Requirements

Essential:

  • Swim England Coach qualification (or equivalent)
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience coaching swimmers aged 9–16
  • Experience within a competitive swimming club environment
  • Flexible availability (midweek, weekends, and competitions)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Passion for developing young athletes
  • Up-to-date Safeguarding training and DBS clearance

Desirable:

  • Experience coaching at national competitive level
  • Knowledge of Swim England pathways and development frameworks
  • Land Training qualification
  • First Aid and/or Lifeguard qualification
