Medal tally surpasses last yearโs total as regional swimmers excel across pool and open water events
The North Eastโs swimmers, coaches, clubs and team staff have enjoyed another sensational fortnight of competition, returning from the Swim England Open Water National Championships and the Swim England National Summer Meet with an impressive haul of medals, and a marked improvement on last yearโs performances.
Swim England Open Water Age Group Nationals
Saturday 26th July โ Rother Valley
The regionโs young open water swimmers demonstrated skill, stamina and composure in challenging conditions, securing:
- Gold: 3
- Silver: 5
- Bronze: 2
Total medals: 10
Much of this success can be linked to the Regional Open Water Camp, which provided invaluable race preparation, technical development, and tactical awareness training for our age group athletes. The camp gave swimmers the opportunity to refine their skills in realistic open water conditions, build confidence, and develop the resilience needed to excel on the national stage.

Swim England Open Water National Masters Championships
Sunday 27th July โ Rother Valley
The North East Masters squad once again proved their dominance in open water racing, with outstanding swims across the age categories. Their medal tally was:
- Gold: 15
- Silver: 13
- Bronze: 15
Total medals: 43
Swim England National Summer Meet
Tuesday 29th July โ Sunday 3rd August โ Ponds Forge International Sports Centre, Sheffield
The regionโs pool swimmers rounded off the fortnight in spectacular style at the National Summer Meet, delivering a wave of personal bests and podium finishes. The medal count was:
- Gold: 24
- Silver: 27
- Bronze: 35
Total medals: 86

Overall achievement
Across the three championships, the North East amassed a combined 139 medals:
- Gold: 42
- Silver: 45
- Bronze: 52
This represents a clear improvement on last yearโs results, reflecting the regionโs continued progress, growing strength in depth, and the hard work of swimmers, coaches and support teams.
A strong showing in all disciplines
From the endurance of the open water events at Rother Valley to the speed and precision of the National Summer Meet at Ponds Forge, North East athletes demonstrated their adaptability, resilience and competitive edge.
The success was underpinned by exceptional teamwork, with swimmers from clubs across the region pushing each other to perform at their very best. The camaraderie and shared determination to represent the North East with pride were evident both in and out of the water.
