63 medals for the region – relays lead the way at Ponds Forge
The North East’s swimmers, coaches, team staff and clubs made a huge splash at the inaugural Aquatics GB Next Gen Championships 2025, held at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre, Sheffield, from Saturday 19th to Friday 25th July.
In a week showcasing the very best emerging talent in British swimming, across the North East clubs there was an incredible 63 medals – 21x gold, 23x silver, and 19x bronze – a testament to the hard work, dedication, and teamwork across the region.
From the first heats to the final evening session, North East swimmers delivered outstanding performances, producing lifetime bests, season bests, national titles, and thrilling race finishes. Coaches and support staff worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure athletes were primed for peak performance, while the atmosphere among the squad remained electric throughout the week.
Relays deliver gold-standard performances
While individual events saw plenty of success, it was in the relay races that the North East truly stamped its authority. Clubs combined skill, speed and seamless changeovers to produce some of the most dominant and dramatic wins of the meet.
The region’s relay teams consistently featured on the podium, often in the gold medal position. Many of these victories came against strong opposition from powerhouse programmes across the country, underlining the strength in depth and club unity within the North East.
The relay successes were not just about medals – they were about teamwork, camaraderie, and the pride of representing the region together on the national stage.
