The North East Steelers U14 had a spirited weekend at the 2025 U14 Open Inter-Regional Championships (Dec 6–7) at Walsall Gala Baths.

The team led by, Head Coach, Paul Worthington and supported by assistant coach Graham Trueman and Team Manager Lisa Woods were optimistic heading into the weekend with a young team.

Facing stiff competition in Group B, the Steelers opened with a challenging 10–2 defeat to London Sharks, but bounced back strongly to beat West Midland Warriors 11–4. In the final group gave we were narrowly edged out 4 -6 by South East.

Finishing third in Group B (1 win, 2 losses), we advanced to Sunday’s 5^th– 6^th place play off.

In the 5th–6th place playoff, we faced a resolute Scotland side and were defeated 5–3, concluding the tournament in 6th place overall

Dylan Moss was named MVP after playing all four games out of position and doing a fantastic job at CB.

Overall it was a good foundation on which to build in the 2027 tournament and the experience gained, particularly by the two youngest members of the team, will be vital in the development of the team.
