Well done to all the Young Leaders from clubs across the North East Region who volunteered to develop themselves as Swimming Officials in Leeds on Sunday 22nd January at the competition run and organised by Team Jorvik.
The Young Leaders applied to be part of the programme for a variety of reasons:
“I would like to learn more about how competitions are run and help to volunteer to support swimming competitions to run.”
“I want to give something back to the club that has supported me and to gain further experience in swimming coaching and training.”
“To learn a new role and help support younger swimmers develop.”
“I would like to be able to assist more at the club.”
“I have always been interested in swimming officiating and knowing how galas work etc. I would like to volunteer in my club and help with officiating in local galas.”
“I swim for the above club and now want yo start helping yo pay back what I have and am learning.”
The Young Leaders had all completed online training ahead of the event to enable them to be begin their journey as Swimming Officials. All successfully completed various aspects of the duties required of an official under the support, direction and guidance of other volunteers.
Thanks to Yorvik SC for accommodating them at the meet and to all the other volunteer officials for making them feel so welcome.
