My name is Sophie and I recently attended the AP Race Masters Grand Prix at Sunderland Aquatic Centre. This was an amazing experience as I learnt so much and can’t wait to have more opportunities like this in the future.
Why did you volunteer at the event?
I volunteered because I like to do as many of these opportunities as I can and I really enjoy them. This also helps my club MASC as this event offered to raise money for it. I love working with other volunteers and being part of these exciting events around the Country.
What role/s did you do at the event?
On both days I was a time keeper and this was especially one of my favourite events as I had never been offered anything like this before and can’t wait to continue to do it and grow my skills. I got great training and support from the team around me and it helped me feel proficient and confident at something new but of critical importance to the events.
What did you learn from the volunteering experience?
I learnt how to be a timekeeper as this is something I had never done before and I never thought I would be able to do this at such a young age and high event. I learned more about Masters events as this was my first high profile one. I have done previous masters and other events in the past but I continue to learn more about the Masters events and I can’t wait till they become even bigger in the near future.
What did you enjoy about the experience?
I enjoyed the entire experience, especially the university league finals as this was such a rush to be a part of and I really enjoyed the atmosphere of this event. I knew some of the Masters and volunteers there both from my own club and previous volunteer work, it’s always great to see familiar faces.
Molly Renshaw is an inspiration to me and it was great to meet her.
What perhaps didn’t you enjoy so much?
I personally enjoyed everything and I thought everything was so well organised that it ran smoothly as there were no issues. Well done AP Race events and the food was chefs kiss!
Would you recommend other young leaders taking advantage of similar opportunities in the future?
Yes, I would definitely recommend this as everyone was a pleasure to be with and I can’t believe I experienced this. I would love to do many more events in the future as I enjoy them so much and they are so beneficial. Thank you for having me as part of the team.
