North East Clubs Triumph at Aquatics GB Summer Championships

The North East clubs showcased remarkable performances at the Aquatics GB Summer Championships, held from Saturday 20th July to Friday 26th July at the Ponds Forge International Sports Centre, Sheffield. With an impressive haul of medals, the region demonstrated its dominance and depth in aquatic sports.

The North East clubs collectively secured a total of 85 medals:

• Gold: 31
• Silver: 27
• Bronze: 27

The championships saw North East athletes excel across a wide range of events, with several highlights underscoring their prowess. In numerous individual events, athletes from the region achieved a clean sweep of the top positions, showcasing their competitive edge.

One of the standout moments was in the Women’s 14-16 years 4x200m Freestyle relay. The North East clubs claimed all three podium positions, marking a historic achievement:

• Gold: City of Leeds
• Silver: City of Sheffield
• Bronze: Northumberland & Durham Performance

This exceptional 1-2-3 finish exemplifies the strength and depth of talent within the region’s clubs. The teamwork, dedication, and competitive spirit of the athletes were evident throughout the championships, contributing to the North East’s medal tally and setting a high standard for future competitions.

In addition to the medal success, multiple club, county, and regional records were broken during the championships. These record-breaking performances highlight the exceptional skill and determination of the North East athletes, setting new benchmarks for future competitions.
