Athletes work hard at the Northumberland and Durham Swimming Camp

On the 18th May 2024, selected 12 year olds from accross swimming clubs within Northumberland and Durham attended their second face to face training camp of the season.

Ian Dale, the Lead Team Manager for the camp summed up the day in his report below:

The final day for the Northumberland and Durham County camp came, swimmers and coaches swarming in to the Sunderland Aquatic Centre ready to get stuck in.

The session started with a nice pre pool stretch and then athletes broke out into their coaching groups ready to start in the pool. Head coach Katy Batley set some great skills and drills to aid the swimmers with their techniques and the coach’s delivered the session to the highest order. After the dinner break the swimmers enjoyed a great and very tough land training session in the studio. They were shown some great stretches and work for flexibility and injury prevention, all of which can now be practiced within their home club environment.

The final pool session commenced and once again, more high skill and technique work was being developed and showcased! The swimmers were really demonstrating the hard work they had been putting in during the day with some great work again.

Big well done to ALL whom attended the sessions this season and really got stuck into the online Zoom, pool and land sessions. Hopefully everyone learnt a lot and have taken away great positives AND a new circle of friends from the experience.
