FINA Changes in Artistic Swimming

Last Friday, FINA announced the proposed changes to the Artistic Swimming Rules from 2022-2025.   Subject to ratification by FINA which is due to take place in October 2022, the changes proposed mark the biggest change in the way Artistic Swimming is coached, judged and scored in the history of the sport.    The changes are welcome as they are designed to help make our sport more objective and easier for fans to follow .  You can find the press release for the vision here

The ASLG is currently working through the changes and setting up smaller working groups to assess what is needed to change in GB/England across our grades, competitions, coach and judge education and scoring.

The timings we are working to are as follows:

Phase 1:    Assessment and implementation of changes to time limits, types of routines and age groups :  to be complete by end July 22.

Phase 2:   Working groups to report back on Coach, Grades, Judge and Scoring changes:   Beginning of September 22

Phase 3:  Education and roll out plans:    October – December 22

We are expecting FINA to provide more support and training, which will only be done when it’s all approved in October, so we are doing our best to be ready to receive that information and ensure it can be rolled out as quickly and effectively as possible.

Please note there will be no change to the figure and routine grades in 2022, so please continue to work towards these. The earliest they will be changed will be January 2023.
