This year’s Regional Para Training has been a huge success!
The final session of the season took place at Catterick Leisure Centre on Sunday 29th May.

We had a total of 15 athletes register on the day. We started with recapping on RMAP and working on developing each swimmers own Pre-pool programme to go away and develop with a view to using it at all sessions.
In the medium term we would encourage all swimmers to be able to attend future camps with their own personalised programme in place that they use regularly. Emphasis was put on the benefits of effective Pre-pool such as injury prevention and readiness for the session ahead.
That was followed by some basic Prime exercises that can be used to help prepare swimmers for their session in the pool by working on specific movements and muscle groups. We finished the land session with an introduction to post pool stretching with a view to expanding this into next season.
The pool session began with an IM based efficiency session, that was followed by a “round robin” skills session where taller groups spent time on Dive Starts, Backstroke starts, Backstroke turns and Front crawl turns.
The session finished with a few team relay races. The commitment and enthusiasm from the athletes was outstanding. They worked really hard and were a credit to their parent / carers and their home clubs. Thanks needs to go to Jo & Emma from Doncaster Darts, Zoe B from Blythe, Zoe C, Ben G for their coaching support, Sarah for doing a great job as Team Manager (and photographer!) and our two poolside helpers Nevaeh & Thomas from Richmond.
Also Catterick Leisure Centre staff who, once again, could not do enough to help us on the day.The new Regional swimming hats made the athletes look and feel part of a team and we look forward to welcoming the athletes back for the 2022-2023 programme later in the year.
