Ben Alderson, a talented 19-year-old water polo player from Sedgefield, has made waves in the international water polo scene. Having played for Sedgefield Water Polo Club since the age of eight, Ben recently represented the Great Britain Men’s Water Polo Team at the Division 2 tournament hosted at Maltepe University, Istanbul, Turkey.
The tournament began on Wednesday 21st December, following a few days of intense training after the team’s arrival in Istanbul on Monday 19th December. Competing against 12 teams in their division, the GB team put in a determined effort across four matches, finishing in 10th place overall.

- GB 15 – 9 South Africa (Ben Alderson scored 2 goals)
- Turkey 14 – 7 GB
One of the highlights of the tournament was the victory against South Africa, marking a momentous achievement for the GB Men’s team. Notably, this victory was Great Britain’s first win at this level in over a decade, underlining the team’s progress and resilience.
Ben’s contributions, with four goals scored across the tournament, played an important role in the team’s performance. His dedication to the sport and years of training with Sedgefield Water Polo Club have clearly paid off, earning him recognition on the international stage.
