Success for North East Swimmers at British Swimming Championships 2023

The North East of England has been making waves in the world of swimming, and the recent British Swimming Championships held at Ponds Forge in Sheffield from Tuesday 4th April to Sunday 9th April 2023, were a testament to this fact. The championships saw an impressive display of talent from North East swimmers, who proved to be some of the brightest stars at the event.

At this competition, there were four finals including the Open A Final, Open B Final, Priority Paris Final (23 and under), and a Junior Final ( 18 and under) for all events barring the 800m/1500m Freestyle.

On the first night of the competition, we had 2 medallists Sienna Robinson (SILVER), City of Sheffield and Lead Schlosshan (BRONZE), City of Leeds, in the 50m Breaststroke and 400m Individual Medley respectively. Fast forwarding to the penultimate night of competition Leah was able to pick up another Bronze medal in the 200m Individual Medley.

There were a lot of consideration times for our juniors over the course of the week. The consideration times were set up to allow juniors to be considered for selection to represent their country at upcoming international junior competitions such as the European Junior Championships, European Youth Olympic Festival, and Commonwealth Youth Games. Team announcements have yet to be made, but we are keeping our fingers crossed for our North East Juniors!

Furthermore, the North East had a large amount of athletes who secured spots into finals over the course of the week in a variety of different events.

The success of North East swimmers at the British Championships highlights the talent and hard work that goes into producing elite athletes in the region. The coaching and training facilities available to North East swimmers have undoubtedly contributed to their success, as has the support of their families and communities.

The achievements of these North East swimmers at the British Swimming Championships are a source of inspiration for young swimmers in the region, who now have proof that hard work, dedication, and talent can lead to success at the highest level of competition. The North East Region are be proud of its swimmers, who have once again demonstrated that the region is a breeding ground for world-class athletes.
