Young Aquatic Poolside Helper Training

Sixteen young volunteers from ten clubs across the The Swim England North East Region attended Aquatic Poolside Helper Training for Young Volunteers in York on Sunday 3rd September. The workshop aimed to help develop them as Poolside Helpers in their chosen aquatic discipline.

The training opportunity familiarised the Young Volunteers with the key core skills and knowledge to support and reinforce the instructions of a coach in their chosen discipline.

The feedback from the participants was very positive who valued the face to face training. They will now be given access to additional online training resources to help them volunteer on poolside in their club environment with the help and support of a qualified coach.

What is an Aquatic Poolside Helper?

A Poolside Helper supports the delivery of club sessions under the supervision of a qualified teacher or coach.

It provides an opportunity to take on a new challenge, gain practical teaching/coaching experience and support the development of all swimmers involved in the club.

This is a fun and supportive role and provides an opportunity to positively impact on the success of the club which will be determined by the volunteers own motivation and enthusiasm.

They can assist with the set-up of the pool for club training sessions and ensure all equipment is correctly stored away at the end of the session.

They must be aware of the safety of the session at all times, ensuring the poolside is tidy and any health and safety risks are reported to the coach or appropriate personnel.
