NEW initiative for 17yrs+

Swim England NE Region has selected a team of 32 swimmers to attend this year’s prestigious AP Race London International (50m) on 24-26th May. Swimmers born in 2008 or earlier were eligible for selection in a bid to encourage athletes aged 17yrs+ to stay involved in competitive swimming for longer. As identified during our insight gathering process in recent years, there is a steady decline in membership numbers during the teenage years and into early adulthood which prompted us to act and try out some new and exciting projects.

At the end of last year we saw the inaugural Regional Super Camp which brought together swimmers from the 13/14/15/16yrs age groups for a one day clinic of epic proportions. The feedback from both the swimmers and staff was hugely positive, and we are hoping that this latest initiative adds another layer to our ambitious plans to give the Region’s swimmers both the inspiration and the opportunity to keep competing as young adults.

The North East Region is very proud that the above swimmers will be travelling as a team to the event and will be competing with international teams from across the globe. The swimmers will race under the banner of the Region so we are sure you will join with us and wish them the very best preparation for this exciting event.

Team Staff – Now Required

We are now inviting applications from coaches and team managers who may be interested in attending this event with our squad. All travel, meals and accommodation will be covered by the Region for this unique professional development opportunity.

All expressions of interest should be made to the following Google Form link, no more than 250 words outlining relevant experience and qualifications – minimum level: TM2 or Swim England Coach (level 2) by Friday 4th April 17:00. The AP Race London International is one of the most prestigious swimming events in the calendar. With swimmers from across the globe descending on the iconic London 2012 Olympic Pool for a showcase showdown. There’s a huge prize pot available for the top performers and there will be record crowd numbers cheering on the swimmers – last year’s event saw over 9,500 spectators in the stands creating an electric atmosphere, and this year’s event promises to be bigger and better than ever.
